Welcome to the Future Of Carbon-Negative Hospitality

A Living Laboratory For Climate Innovation

Architectural vision of the resort and institute
Mission-Driven Impact

Hospitality That Powers Mission-Driven Impact

Group One West is redefining tourism as a climate solution. Our mission is to move beyond "net zero" toward a regenerative, climate-positive model that restores ecosystems, sequesters carbon, empowers Indigenous communities, and delivers measurable environmental and economic gains.

Nestled on the pristine west coast of British Columbia, Group One West is building the world's first hybrid: a carbon-negative, energy-positive resort paired with an Indigenous co-led climate research and education institute.

Scheduled to open in 2030, the resort and institute are designed as a living laboratory, demonstrating how tourism, advanced technology, and traditional knowledge can heal ecosystems while inspiring global change.

Embark on this journey with us and step into a place where every stay carries purpose. Here on the West Coast, the land, waters, and cultures are honoured in every moment, inviting you to move with care, witness the beauty around you, and become a guardian of nature and heritage. Each experience is a chance to leave a meaningful mark, weaving your presence into a story of renewal, balance, and lasting impact for generations to come.

Our Commitment Moves Beyond Sustainability Toward Regeneration

Every system designed to restore more than it consumes

We go further than "net zero." Every system within the resort is designed to restore more than it consumes.

01

Smart Energy Systems

Microgrid combining solar, wind, wave, geothermal, and bioelectricity, supported by innovations like wastewater heat recovery and bio-inspired solar (PV-leaf) cooling.

02

Sustainable Water

Closed-loop showers and advanced water reuse reduce water demand by up to 90%, while rainwater harvesting and wastewater recovery create a closed water cycle.

03

Circular Waste

Food waste and organics are processed through hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) and anaerobic digestion to generate clean energy, biochar, and compost for on-site agriculture.

04

Carbon-Negative Building Design

Exploring breakthroughs such as electrified cement supercapacitors, integrating energy storage directly into structures.

Academics, Research Partners, And Institutional Collaborators

Research Priorities

The Institute is positioned to advance technologies to Technology Readiness Level 9 (TRL9) through collaborative research, demonstration, and open-access dashboards. Key areas include:

Bioelectricity & Biophotovoltaics (BPV)

Exploring microbial fuel cells, algae-based systems, and solar-bio hybrids for low-cost, distributed energy.

Carbon-Negative Building Design

A bold commitment to carbon-negative construction that minimises harm while advancing climate regeneration. Guided by rigorous Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), every stage prioritises low-carbon, carbon-sink, circular materials and systems.

Circular Systems

Hydrothermal carbonisation (HTC), anaerobic digestion, and closed-loop food-waste-to-energy frameworks.

Smart Energy & Water

Microgrid integrating with wastewater heat recovery, closed-loop water reuse, and advanced kinetic energy systems.

Blue Carbon & Marine Systems

10-hectare kelp farms sequestering ~300 tonnes CO₂ annually, supporting both research and local food systems.

Energy Resilience

Decentralised energy technologies that empower communities to generate, store, and manage their own power. Microgrids, energy-positive buildings, and innovative storage solutions strengthen local resilience and energy sovereignty in the face of climate disruptions.

Facilities & Partnerships

A global testbed for climate innovation

The Institute will occupy 5000 m² dedicated to laboratories, modular wet-lab pods, classrooms, and a 500-seat lecture theatre for knowledge exchange. It is supported by an advisory panel of distinguished scientists, academics, and industry leaders. Ongoing and future collaborations and partnerships with Canadian and international Universities following UNITAR-CIFAL principles and strategies, alongside other research institutes and green energy leaders.

These networks position Group One West's hybrid model to become a global testbed, accelerating the translation of climate innovations into deployable solutions for hospitality, urban and rural infrastructure, and community-scale energy systems.

Where luxury, learning, and culture meet

Guided by First Nations knowledge, Group One West will be a destination where luxury, learning, and culture meet.

Guests can:

  • Walk forest trails with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers.
  • Experience kelp farms and wetlands that generate food, sequester carbon, and produce energy.
  • Participate in open dashboards and demonstrations showing real-time renewable energy and bioelectricity research.
  • Restore body and spirit in wellness programs inspired by the land, ocean, and ancestral traditions.
  • Savour culinary excellence in our variety of dining venues, where every dish is crafted from sustainable, locally sourced ingredients and celebrates the art of gastronomy.
  • Glide across serene ocean waters in a traditional long canoe with ancestral First Nations wisdom carried on the wind and waves.
Discover, Connect, And Protect

More than a resort — a celebration of interconnectedness

This is more than a resort—it is a celebration of our interconnectedness with each other, the planet, and the cosmos, enriched by the ancestral knowledge of First Peoples. Join us as we pave the way for a regenerative future, where progress is measured by the care we extend to the world and its legacy.
